About me

My main interest is in landscape and nature photography and those are the images you'll see most often in my prints gallery. I view photography as an essentially editorial process. Making an image is about telling the viewer something. In my process I'm not shy about manipulating images in order to show you what I want you to see. I rarely use compositing but I frequently use techniques for changing light, colour and tone. This is all done with the intention of creating an atmosphere that draws you into the scene. I often play with focus, vignetting, dodging and burning, duotoning and any other technique that interests me and that I think will make the image "pop".

My interest in photography started as a child when I was given a 126 camera but it didn't really develop until I bought my first real SLR at the beginning of 2000. I quickly rediscovered an old love and decided very quickly that the time was right to move into purely digital. From there I bought a good quality digital point and shoot but as soon as I was able I bought my first digital SLR. My investment in gear will no doubt be lifelong but I have learned the value of good quality equipment that I can take with me as I upgrade. Having never learned real darkroom craft I prefer to work in the digital darkroom of photoshop where I feel I can produce even more dramatic and distinctive pictures.
